Dorothy R. Louis, 83, March 30, 1927 - June 16, 2010
Suddenly. Survived by oldest sister Mary L. Ambrose, nieces Johanna Ambrose (Fritsch) (Phil LaPorta), Elizabeth P. Hoagland (Bill). Many grandnieces and -nephews including Jonna and Joseph E. Fritsch, Laurel, Anna and Johnny Prothero, and Gwen Ardis Prothero (Laurel's daughter). Several other nieces and nephews including Paul and Andrea Louis.
Dorothy was an author, travel writer, musician, and artist. She published four books including My Father, the Chef," a tribute to her father, well-known Rochester chef James "Lefty" Louis. A trained soprano, she performed in "Opera Under the Stars" and with area big bands. She composed Irondequoit's "anthem," The Irondequoit Spirit," and recorded two albums, Geneseecrets and How Lilacs Came to Rochester. Dorothy loved animals, flowers, and figure skating. Her dog Ladye accompanied her on her many trips.
Her memorial mass will be held Friday, 10:00 a.m. at St. Cecilia's Church, Irondequoit where she was a real part of the community. Contributions in her memory may be made to any organization that supports the humane, non-lethal care and protection of pets, strays, and wildlife.
