Obituary of Robert S. Havens

Robert S. Havens of Mendon, died on Friday January 24, 2014 at the age of 89. Bob was born the son of William and Louis Schiller Haven on September 28, 1924 in Jordan, NY He is survived by his ever loving wife of 65 years, Eileen Hutchinson Havens; son, Gregg (Joan) Havens; daughter, Ellen (Brian) Kjar; son, Todd (Colleen) Havens; son-in-law, Martin Dehmler; 10 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his daughter, Joan Havens Dehmler, son Gary Havens, brother Howard Havens and sister, Ruth Havens. Bob served in the U.S. Navy during WW II (1943-1946) and became an Ensign upon his graduation from Duke University in 1947. He devoted his life to his family and serving the community. Bob retired from the U.S. Postal Service after 32 years, served 66 years with the Mendon Fire Department, was a member of the Honeoye Falls American Legion Post 664 for over 50 years, Superintendent of the Mendon Cemetery for 35 years, Board of Elections Inspector for over 20 years, a Boy Scout Leader for 21 years and was a member of St. Catherine of Siena Church. Visiting hours will be held on Sunday, January 26, 2014 from 1-4 pm at the Merton H. Kays Funeral Home, Inc. 59 Monroe Street, Honeoye Falls. His Funeral Mass will be held at 11 am on Monday, January 27, 2014 at St. Catherine of Siena in Mendon, NY, followed by interment at Mendon Cemetery.
