Obituary of William A. Carlson
William A. Carlson, Rush, NY, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving family in his ninetieth year, on Tuesday, March 8th. He was predeceased by his parents, Alton and Rheta, and brother Tom and is survived by Mary Lou, his beloved wife of 62 years, three children, Judy (Tom) Dubois, Steve (Rebecca) Carlson and Brad (Patricia) Carlson. He adored his six grandchildren Ryan, Nathan (Mollee), Bryce, Blair, Noah, and Natalia. One great granddaughter Ellie and a new great grandchild on the way in April. Bill was blessed by great friends and was loved by many.
Bill was born in Niagara Falls and attended Alfred University before taking a job at Pfaudler in Rochester as a Ceramic Engineer. He left for two years to serve in the US Army as a Spec 4 and was stationed in Pittsburgh, PA where he met and fell in love with Mary Lou. He came back to Pfaudler and worked there for 42 years before retiring as the VP of Glassing Technologies.
He loved his adopted hometown of Rush, NY and was a very active member of the community. He attended both St Joseph's in Rush and St Catherine's in Mendon and was a valued member of both congregations. He loved fishing, golfing and most of all bird watching, a hobby he continued up until the very end.
Bill was a loving, patient, and caring individual who always took the time to listen, whether you were a family member, friend, or someone he just met. He enjoyed many social activities from golf leagues, canoe clubs, overseas travel, and fishing trips. He loved his family and cherished the time he spent with his children and grandchildren. He had a special bond with each member of his family, and the love they shared will be his legacy. He was to many a great role model.
In the later years he enjoyed going out to breakfast with Mary Lou, reading the WSJ, finishing his daily Sudoku puzzle and, always with binoculars in hand, scanning the backyard feeders for his daily feathered visitors. His loss will always be felt by those who knew and loved him, but his generosity of spirit and love will always live with them.
His Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Catherine of Siena, Mendon, NY on Saturday, March 19, 2022 at 11:30 am with a reception to celebrate his life following in the adjoining community center.
