Mike, I remember you from Good Shepherd. I met your brother when Bill Saunders brought him to the Rush Highway garage in 1976 to use their tools to work on engines. Bill referred to him as " Little John ". He never seemed little to me when he started sharing tall stories about their exploits together. I could tell he was battle hardened and Billy was the more talkative. They were modest about their time in the military, but, always joked and traded " sea " stories when working on the engines. It was quite a show. I once asked my friend Bucky Reed the local sheriff's deputy, about them. He knew both John and Bill, liked them and confirmed that their stories about local exploits, especially in the village of Honey Falls, were true.

John was Marine through and through. Went to high school together and ended up in Vietnam together. We met up a couple of times in DaNang and partied. Great guy! Talked with John about 5 years ago and it was like we never lost touch. The world has surely lost a patriot and I miss knowing he is not here anymore.
John, like I was a short guy. I have a deep voice but if you heard John speak on the phone you would expect to see a 6'5" 250 lb guy! The worst thing you could do is underestimate "The Pig" as he would stand toe to toe with you!
RIP John and save me a seat at the bar..

John (aka the pig) and I became good friends in high school and inlisted together in the usmc. We were in Nam together and he visited me quite often in DaNang. After the Marines he was best man at my wedding. We shared a lot of good times together and kind of lost track of each other these past 5-6 years. Rest in peace Brother.
The picture the family posted,I'm pretty sure was from a newspaper article a reporter wrote about John when he came home from Nam.I had that article, but can't find it.
I remember now,in the picture John was holding a bamboo punji stick, not shrapnel, but I think he got his purple heart from some fragments.
