To Alyce and Jim,
I met your Mom when I worked at Frederick's Salon. Each week on Friday she would come in to have Fred do her hair. I had the great pleasure of knowing her well for 14 years. She and Fred had quick witted conversations about every subject in the world. He was the master of doing her hair as evidenced in this beautiful photo of her.
I remember so well when Betty came in right after Paul died. I sat and held her hand while she was under the hairdryer. I've never witnessed such profound grief and just didn't know what to say to her. Little did I know that years later I would suffer the same loss. That is when I understood that words are not necessary, just the compassionate touch of a hand that says, "I care about you".
Betty, I've thought about you so often over these years and thank you for being a part of my Fridays at Fred's for so many years.
Rest in Paradise, sweet lady. You are with your beloved Paul once again and Fred was waiting for you, too to give you a special wash and set.
