Obituary of John A. Dietz

John A. Dietz Honeoye Falls: John Anthony Dietz (Jack), 88, passed away on Sunday, October 21, 2018 at Doylestown Hospital in Doylestown, Pennsylvania. He was predeceased by his loving wife of 47 years, Elisabeth Dietz (Frachel). Jack was born in Rochester, New York, on September 28, 1930 to the late Wallace and Doris (Tierney) Dietz. He graduated high school from The Aquinas Institute of Rochester class of 1948 and completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Rochester, class of 1952. Jack became an attorney after graduating from Cornell Law School in 1955 and passing the New York bar exam. After a few years in private practice, Jack spent the majority of his career as a corporate attorney working for the Eastman Kodak Company in Rochester as a Vice President and Chief Legal Officer of Eastman Savings & Loan, the in-house bank open to Kodak employees. After the national savings & loan crisis of the late 1980's, Jack successfully lobbied the U.S. Congress for legislation to keep Eastman Savings & Loan exempt from new regulatory requirements and towards the end of his career, Jack led the legal transformation of Eastman Savings and Loan into ESL Federal Credit Union, the first such conversion of a savings & loan institution into a federal credit union. Jack moved to Honeoye Falls in 1963 and was proud to be a village resident until selling his home in 2012 to move closer to his children. He is well known for his decades of service to the community first as a Justice for the Town of Mendon and later as Village Justice for the Village Court of Honeoye Falls until 1998 when he retired from the bench and the Village Court was dissolved. Jack also served as a lay reader at mass for many years as a member of the St. Paul of the Cross parish on Monroe Street in Honeoye Falls. Jack was a dedicated father and is also survived by his four children, Katherine VanOort of Naples, Florida; Donna Marie Dietz of Saratoga Springs, New York; John William Dietz of Doylestown, Pennsylvania; Karen Grann of Honeoye Falls, New York; his younger sister, Sheila Wolk of Hume, Virginia; and his six grandchildren. He was predeceased by his younger brothers David Dietz of Anchorage, Alaska and William Wallace Dietz of Rochester, New York. No prior calling. Jack's Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, October 26 at 11 am at St. Paul of the Cross Church, 37 Monroe St. Honeoye Falls with burial immediately following in St. Paul of the Cross Cemetery.
