Obituary of Harold E. Sachs
Harold E. Sachs of Avon/Lakeville died July 3, 2013 at the Conesus Lake Nursing Home peacefully at age 88. Survived by his wife of 64 years, Ruth, who was at his side when he died; his sons, Paul (Dana) of Corinth, TX, Lee (Penny) of Thousand Oaks, CA, James (Susan) of Chili, NY; grandchildren, Lisa (Charles) Cutler, Erika (William) Zollicoffer, Lindsay Sachs, James (Heather) Sachs, Leah Sachs; 4 great grandchildren, Ryan Sachs, James Vantuyl, Emily Sachs and Rose Barone and four step grandchildren, Brian (Vicki) Ioele, Jeff (Kathy) Ioele, Kristy Ioele and Egan McBride.
Harold was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer Sachs and Charlotte Schmitt Sachs and his sister Genevieve all of Rochester.
On June 25, 1949 Harold and the former Ruth Sophia Bown of Egypt, NY were married in Fairport. During the course of their 64 year marriage they lived in Rochester, Chili, Conesus and Avon, NY. Harold and Ruth owned several RV's and traveled the US as far as Alaska. He is a former member of the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Rochester.
Harold's working career started at his grandfather's hardware store in Rochester which later became Sachs Metal Supply. After that he worked at Alliance Tool and Die, Dansville Airport and also owned Palmyra Furniture and Palmyra Paint and Wallpaper.
Harold was an active member of the American Society of Metals, the Masonic Lodge in Livonia and the Toy Train Collectors of America (TCA). In addition, he collected International Harvester tractors and was a member of the IH Tractor club. Harold was an avid private pilot for much of his life and also donated his time to the National War Plane Museum in Geneseo.
Friends may call Friday, July 19, 2013 from 2-4 and 6-8 pm at the Merton H. Kays Funeral Home, Inc. 59 Monroe St. Honeoye Falls. Services Saturday, July 20 2013 at 10 am at the Lakeville United Church of Christ. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Teresa House, 21 Highland Rd. Geneseo, NY 14454 or the National War Plane Museum, 1941 Aircraft Group, Geneseo, NY 14454.
