Obituary of Charles Kirke Otis
Charles "Kirke" Otis went to his Eternal Home with God on June 16, 2011, in his 80th year. Born July 11, 1931, in Rochester, NY, the son of Charles F. and Marjorie Longfellow Otis, Jr. Grandson of the late Dr. Charles F. Otis Sr. and Mary Hutchison, whose family home stood at the new site of the Mendon Public Library in Honeoye Falls.
Kirke served with the US Navy Submarine Service. He had been a resident of Honeoye Falls, Rochester, N. Miami, FL and most recently West Bloomfield.
Kirke is survived by his loving wife, Virginia, and sister, Andrea Jeanne Harwell. He was predeceased in death by his eldest son, Kirke Michael Otis and nephew, Robert Charles Rosen.
He is also survived by his children, Kevin, Karylsue (Bob Wilcox), Kerry (Kent) Garfinkel and Kristian (Brenda). Step children, Susan Dodd, Sabrina (Dave) Veltre, Saundra Smith, Stevyn (Tiffany), Sherryl and Stuart (Gina) Dodd. Grandchildren, Kimberly and Rachelle Otis, Amber Wilcox, Cody Otis, Lacey Petty, Katy and Keith Garfinkel, Tia and Marissa Otis, Kristian and Timmy Otis; step grandchildren, Jeffery Wilcox, David (Gayle) DeForest, Michael Shepard, Jessica, Brandon and Eric Veltre, Joseph, Rachel, and Ryan Smith, Olivia and Wyatt Dodd, Devon Gagnon and David Bolduc, Jacob, Jonah, Jesse and Jadon Dodd. Great grandchildren, Martin Stern, Robbie Capitello, Talan Ardis, Tristin McLeod, Lacey, Nichole and Damien DeForest and Tessa Wheeler. Nephew, Lawrence (Janine) Rosen and niece Suzanne (Kenneth) Carter; grand nephews, Joel, John, Ian and Luke Rosen. He is also survived by his ex-wife, Sherlee (William) Ruth and his faithful follower, his beloved Shepard Bear.
Kirk was a member and trustee at St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Mendon
Friends may call Saturday, June 18 2011 from 1-3 pm at the Merton H. Kays Funeral Home, Inc., 59 Monroe Street, Honeoye Falls, followed by a Funeral Service at St. Mark's Lutheran Church, 18 Victor Mendon Road, Mendon at 4 pm. Kirke will be buried at the Otis plot in Honeoye Falls Cemetery at a later date.
