Obituary of Marjorie T. Petrie

Marjorie T. Petrie of Highland Village Texas, formerly of Honeoye Falls, died Wednesday, April 14, 2010 at the Medical City Hospital in Dallas, Texas. She was 92. Marjorie was born the daughter of Rowland and Arlye Owen Todd on September 29, 1917 in Rochester, NY. She graduated from Charlotte High School in 1935; Geneseo Normal School in 1938; University of Rochester with a B.A. in 1941; Buffalo State Teachers College with a B.S. in 1943 and SUNY Brockport with an M.S. in 1966. Marjorie was a kindergarten teacher for over 40 years, teaching in Southold and SeaCliff on Long Island as well as several schools in the Rochester and Syracuse area including, Greece, Columbia Preparatory and Camillus, retiring from Webster Central School District, where she taught from 1954 to 1981 and received a Career Teacher Area Award while there. She lived most of her life in Upstate New York, but had moved to Texas 15 years ago to live with her daughter Carol and family. Marjorie was predeceased by her husband Edward; sister Madeline Evitts and brother Eugene Todd. She is survived by her daughter Carol (Alexander) Hutton; grandson Timothy (Sadia) Hutton; granddaughter Carolyn (Carly) Hutton; sister Suzanne (Thomas) Bockman; sister in law Joyce Petrie; several nieces and nephews. Friends may call Monday, May 17, 2010 from 5-8 pm at the Merton H. Kays Funeral Home, Inc. 59 Monroe Street, Honeoye Falls. Burial will be held in Pittsford Cemetery.
