Class of '67. My favorite time of day was the time spent with Don Coley in Wind Ensemble. He had a genuine enthusiasm for his craft as well as being an ok guy with the students. I'm still involved in music today as his influence stuck with me. I'll always remember those wonderful days and that special person.

Mr. Coley was a great music teacher of mine for many years. I appreciated his kindness and patience, and his fun and challenging arrangements for our jazz bands and clarinet choir. It was a unique and once in a lifetime experience to be a part of that great music. Thank you Mr. Coley.

Mr. Coley was very influential on me. He knew Derek and I were excited about jazz, and he gave me all sorts of jazz books and exercises. He gave me my first Jamey Aebersold play-along record, and encouraged me to perform my first improvised solo with the 7/8th grade jazz ensemble. It think it was on a tune called "Bach's Lunch." I'll bet I could still find the cassette tape recording of that if I looked hard enough...

A side of Don that I never knew until one time driving home from a festival he started telling me stories of his days at West Point. They were hilarious!

Donald will be missed by his friends at St.John's Home. We will remember his zest for life as seen through his musical talents and superb skills at the pool table. Joe is missing his pool partner. We loved him and honored him for his life and desire to be independent.
Your friends from the 3-South neighborhood.

Don was my clarinet teacher, starting from 4th grade through high school. I chose the clarinet as my instrument of choice because of him. After his retirement, I invited Don to join our clarinet choir and he was an active member with with us for many years. He has requested that we play at his memorial service and we will be honored to do so. He was a terrific musician and wonderful teacher. He will be missed.
