Obituary of James Evangelos

James Evangelos formerly of Pittsford and Honeoye Falls passed away peacefully on February 22, 2009 at age 90 at the DeMay Living Center in Newark. He is survived by his wife of 62 years Helen (Checani) of Newark, NY, sister Anna Hope Foster of North Andover MA, four sons Mark (Elaine) of Palmyra, NY, Jeffrey (Harolyn) of Friendship, ME, James Evangelos Jr. of Brooklyn, NY and Gary (Anne) of Buffalo, NY. Eight grandchildren, Jamie, Rachel, Jeffrey, Ethan, Andrew, Emily, James and Peter. Two great grandchildren: Blaine and Braden. Predeceased by brothers: Louis, Philip, Peter, and Nicholas Evangelos. James was born in Lowell, MA on June 1, 1918 to Dionysi and Antigoni (Qafezezi) Evangelos from Korce, Albania. He graduated from Johnson High School in North Andover, MA where he lettered in baseball, football and basketball. He was with the Army Air Corps in World War II and involved in the China offensive. He was a retired Massachusetts State Police Lieutenant. He served as the head of security at Northeastern University, Boston, MA from 1962-1967. He and his family moved to Rochester, NY in 1967 where he served as the Head of Security for the University of Rochester from 1967-1975. He was the Director of Parking for the City of Rochester, NY from 1975-1980. Friends may call Wednesday, February 25, 2009 from 11am to 1pm at the Merton H. Kays Funeral Home Inc., 59 Monroe Street, Honeoye Falls, NY where Funeral Services will immediately follow calling. Burial with Military Honors at Honeoye Falls Cemetery. Donations may be made in his name to the Humane Society at Lollypop Farm, 99 Victor Road, Fairport, NY 14450.
