Obituary of Alfred R. Haas
Alfred Robert Haas of Honeoye Falls, NY, passed away peacefully on January 7th, 2024, at the age of 90, with family by his side.
Alfred was born in Brooklyn, NY to Jean and Jeanne Haas on April 28, 1934. He went to high school at Erasmus Hall in Brooklyn and graduated in 1952. He enlisted in the Army reserves his senior year at the age of 17. He began his military career in the Military Police and transferred to the Signal Corp until he completed his duty in 1955. He and his wife Carol moved to Rochester so Al could attend Rochester Institute of Technology in the BS in Electrical Engineering program. He then went on to obtain a Masters in Statistics as part of RIT's very first Masters graduation class in 1968. He began his career with Stromberg Carlson and finished it with his own company, Respond Systems First Aid and Safety that he and Carol started in 1988 in New England. After Al and Carol retired, they moved back to Honeoye Falls and found their dream property in the village.
Al, Carol and their family, built homes on that property and he spent the rest of his retirement as the groundskeeper, with great joy! His days were filled with mowing, cutting trees, landscaping, and whatever else he could find to do until it got dark. It now takes 3 of us to follow in his footsteps. Having his family so close made him even happier.
Alfred is survived by his wife of 70 years Carol; Sons Curt (Heather), Scott (Lisa), and Jim (Franca); Grandchildren Nicholas (Melinda) Haas, Jennifer (Steve) Manganaro, James (Christy) Haas, Emily Haas and Matthew Haas; Great-grandchildren Brecken and Aurora Haas, Tatum Haas, and Maxine Manganaro. He is preceded in death by his parents Jean and Jeanne Haas, sister Joan O'Donnell and Nephew Thomas O'Donnell.
A Celebration of Al's Life will be held in the spring.
